Finding peace in a frantic world.

Motivation not required

One needs motivation to do the things that we don’t want to do. Thus, it’s not motivation we actually need to achieve things, it’s actually the dissolving of our ideas, beliefs and thoughts that block our freedom to act freely.

We have all experienced times when we needed a push, a little nudge to get us started on something. It could be a simple task such as washing the pots or a bigger task like fitting a new bathroom or transforming the garden. But what is it that prevents us from acting from our inspiration?

Motivation and inspiration is something best self initiated rather than relying on someone else trying to cajole us into doing something. On a similar note, I am sure many of us would agree that self led change has been shown to be far more empowering and sustainable for anyone who has ever tried to make any change in their lives be it weight loss, giving up alcohol or getting fit. It was their decision, it was the right time to make a lasting change and it wasn’t as a result of someone else badgering them into change.

If we think deeply about it, motivation is not required for the things we want to do. We do all these things without hesitation. How then, do we get into a position where doing things is easier for us in our mind, where we don’t require motivation or cajoling? What we need is to clear the path from weeds and cut back all the overgrowth. These “weeds” and “overgrowth” are simple words or metaphors representing our life long experiences, habits, culturing and programming often presenting as negative, demotivating or disempowering thoughts that take hold in one’s mind.

Many of us have experienced times when we were just about to do something which was suddenly stopped in its tracks due to some subconscious thought. Some may experience times when we can’t even get to the point where even thinking of wanting to start something. These thoughts are sub-conscious, and barely perceptible, yet they are clearly very powerful. It is possible to become aware of the weeds that hijack our ability to act, if the mind is quiet enough to notice. From there we can become more self aware and begin a spiritual path to relieve ourselves from such long held ideas and beliefs about ourselves and the world.

Given we are all part of the same oneness, same consciousness, helping ourselves; also helps others and; by others helping others we all benefit. The weeds and overgrowth only muddy the crystal clear waters available to us all. If we see the world as it is, instead of how we see it, this lifts consciousness for all.
